Accessing your Computer Remotely
Signing In
In order to access a computer remotely the following criteria must be met:
- The computer you want to access must be on;
- The computer you want to access must be connected to the Internet;
- The computer you want to access must be running Qnext under the account that the Qnext MyPC User was created on; and
- You must have the User ID number of that Qnext account, and the Qnext MyPC Username and Password.
If these criteria are met, then open up your web browser and visit: Qnext MyPC webpage. Every time you want to access your PC remotely, you will need to visit this site, so it is a good idea to bookmark this page if you intend to access your PC frequently.
Once you are on the Qnext MyPC page, enter:
- the Qnext User ID of the account running on the computer you are trying to access; and
- the Qnext MyPC username and password created from that Qnext account.
That’s it! The content that has been made available remotely will display in the same webpage you are on in seconds.
Using Qnext MyPC
Once you have signed in to Qnext MyPC with the appropriate account details, the content that has been made available remotely will display in your web browser. Please note that if you have only been given View Only access, you will not be able to affect anything that is being displayed on your screen. You will only be able to control the mouse and interact with the remote content if you have been given Control access.
When you access an entire desktop remotely you will see something like this:
As you can see above, the user has full desktop access and nothing is hidden. If you have been given Control access you will be able to open any window, or do anything you would be able to do if you were sitting in front of your computer.
Following this same example, if the user only had application-specific access to Calculator and Qnext they would see:
As you can see above, the desktop and all applications other than Calculator and Qnext are completely hidden and inaccessible.
Qnext MyPC Controls
At the top of the Qnext MyPC window there are several controls that allow you to view and control the remote content in different ways:
Disconnect – click this to disconnect from the remote computer.
Clipboard – click this to copy and paste text between the remote computer and the one you are using.
Refresh – reloads the current content.
Graphics / Pictures– toggle between Graphics and Picture mode depending on what you are viewing. If you are looking at pictures or other images with fine details, switch to Picture mode, otherwise you can stay in the default Graphics mode.
