Transferring Files

The Qnext File Center is accessible from the Messages window by right-clicking the contact name, then Contact Center and Files tab at the bottom.

When the Files transfer is used between Qnext users it is secured and made private using SSL encryption. The data travels at high speed directly between computers without any limit on file size. Qnext enables users to send or receive files from other Instant Messenger protocols including Yahoo, MSN, AOL, ICQ, GoogleTalk and iChat. Most protocols (MSN, ICQ, Yahoo etc.) have a file size limit and the transfers travel through a server infrastructure, which may compromise security, privacy, cause low transfer speed and effect the quality of service.

Sending

You can send files or folders to any IM contact using three methods:

  1. Drag and Drop any file or folder from your computer onto any IM contact in the Contact Panel.
  2. Double-click on a contact name, select the Contact Center and Files tab at the bottom of the Messages/ Chatting window and drag & drop any file or folder from your computer onto the Qnext File Center window.
  3. Select the Send Files icon on the top of the Qnext File Center, which will activate your system file manager. Select one or multiple files and press Open.

Receiving

When someone sends you a file, you will hear a sound, see a pop up event on the screen, see a flashing Qnext icon in your system tray, and a file icon will flash beside the contact’s name. Double-click the name of the sender or the flashing icon or single click on the pop-up alert to view the Qnext File Center. Here you can choose Accept, Decline or Save As. Save As will override the default Download path located at the bottom. If Automatically accept files from this contact is enabled you will see the files that have been automatically transferred. You can choose the option the contact which sends you a file to jump to the top of your contact group. This could be made from File > Contact Options.

In the event of a failed connection during the transfer, when the transfer is begun again, it will auto resume and transfer only the portion that was not completed due to the connection interruption.

By selecting Automatically accept files from this contact option, all the files that are transferred from this contact will automatically be transferred to you. When selecting this option you can also specify three rules that relate to this specific contact.

  1. Overwrite – If the transferred file name is the same as one that you received before from this contact, selecting this option will overwrite the file.
  2. Skip - If the transferred file name is the same as one that you received before from this contact, selecting this option will prevent the file transfer.
  3. Rename - If the transferred file name is the same as one that you received before from this contact, selecting this option will rename the transferred file by adding a number in the file extension. For example, if you have test.doc it will rename the new transfer as test(2).doc

Accessing Transferred Files

Any files that were transferred and saved on your computer via a Qnext File Transfer go into a default File Transfer\ Received folder on your computer that is automatically created by Qnext. You can change the default folder at the bottom of the window Download files to or when receiving a file by choosing Save As.

When viewing the received files you can double-click on the file to open with any program that is associated with the file type, or select Open on the right of the file name. To clear the transfer details from the list, click on Remove or the Clean Up button at the bottom right. Both actions will only remove the information from the Qnext File Center window and not from the computer.

Click on the Settings button to set global settings such as; Allow visitors to send files, Play a sound when file is incoming and Set the maximum number of files that can be sent at the same time.
